NAME Tool

A tool for practicing and teaching asking for consent for men and masculine individuals.

*Adapted from the MeToo Masculinity and Male Privilege Consent Toolkit*

N- Name what all parties want and do not want. Ignorance is not bliss. Do not assume that if something was not mentioned or refused, that it is okay to do or proceed with.

A- Acknowledge the moment. Affirm that you both can stop at any time to renegotiate or stop altogether. Set safe words, or touches such as a tap on the shoulder to signal a check-in is needed.

M- Maintain communication. If there’s a shift in mood, body language, or behavior from either party, check in. Consent expires. Do not do something without the other person being made aware and agreeing.

E -Embrace accountability and transformation. Center the needs of those who have been affected. Transform your behaviors to center consent based practices and help others do the same.
