Heart Space Healing Circle Certification Training For Practitioners
Our Healing Circle Training is a 3 month hybrid in person and virtual experience that equips individuals with the skills, tools, and inner resources to implement Heart Space, BEAM's signature healing circle curriculum.
Our Heart Space program was developed in 2020, by our founder Yolo Akili Robinson and our Director of Training & Programs Natalie Patterson, after numerous requests from community members. Community members asked us for a space where they could share what they were navigating with others and also get tools, and resources to cope from the stress of the pandemic and ongoing racial tension. Heart Space is led by a revolving roster of Black therapists and wellness practitioners. It provides a low cost wellness and mental health care option for Black communities where they can find social support and mutuality and gain practical tools that help them cope, thrive, resist dominant oppression, and reimagine. The Train the Trainer Curriculum was co-authored with Natalie Patterson, Yolo Akili Robinson and Beth Killian.
This training focuses on ensuring leaders of these healing circles possess the temperance, self reflexivity, integrity and analysis necessary to foster collective safe space, teach coping skills and disrupt oppression with dignity.
Participants must at the end of our training be able to:
-
Demonstrate strong community/peer counseling and facilitation skills
-
Apply and embody a rigorous analysis of colorism, fatphobia, ableism, transphobia, mental health criminalization, and healing justice
-
Demonstrate an embodiment of a heart centered approach to community that centers compassion, tenderness and rooted accountability
-
Demonstrate they are engaged in and committed to their own self reflexive practices that support ongoing emotional inquiry and behavioral evolution
-
Demonstrate comfort navigating conflict or capacity to learn how to navigate conflict with dignity, assertiveness and care.
Participants who complete our Healing Circles training may be invited to partner with BEAM or may be invited into deeper support depending upon where they may be in their individual journey. BEAM does not offer pass or fail opportunities, but will also not fully credential anyone who may be in need of further support to hold BEAM's principles.
